In addition to methionine and lysine, the aliphatic amino acid threonine is an important growth factor, gut morphology, immunity and carcass characteristics in broilers and is one of the basic amino acids needed for growth of domesticated birds. Chickens cannot synthesize several amino acids including threonine and thus threonine supplementation is required.
